Diego is a young musician who lives the terrible death of his uncle to AIDS. While in his deep depresion he meets Gabriela, which brings back a smile to his face. Just when life seems more promising than ever, one beutiful night death once again took a toll on his life. It seems as though the phantoms of the past are never going to let him go.

Set in Cuba in early 1959, although the historical context is deliberately avoided in its epic backdrop, the story follows the persecution of a poor guy who owes a few pesos to a loan shark and a thug who swear to get even with him, not so much because of the unpaid debt as because they don't want to set a precedent. The man's name is Miguel, and he seems to care as much as Santiago Nasar that the killers are hot on his heels with their half-tone shoes. On the day of his "double crime" (the story recreates those 24 hours), he has a couple of drinks in a bar, argues with his ex-lover, has sex with a young prostitute, puts up with a scolding from his friend Pedro for being negligent, walks, urinates, goes to bed...

Mata Mata is the story about true life of sons, families and an intimate portrait through all levels of society in the world of football business. The chronicle unfolds and focuses on closely to follow Brazilian football players ranging in age from 11 to 29 all in unique stages of their career.

When Elizabeth Lee receives an ultimatum from her mother to either get married or find a job, the feisty 19-year-old decides to enrol into the police academy. Her best friend, Hani Rahmat, joins her. They meet Tan Siew Lan, the third wife of a towkay, who is haunted by secrets from her past. The three musketeers do not get to do any actual police work. They are forced to prove themselves in the police force before being taken seriously. At the same time, events in the secret society are unravelling at an alarming rate with the death of their leader, Kway Pek. Another gang leader, Dua Jiak, has his eyes set on the empty post. Anti-colonial resentment comes to a climax. Hani finally gets a chance to take part in real police work. Elizabeth is made to contend with her sexist partner, Inspector Kong Say Chong. Siew Lan is faced with the dilemma of whether or not to carry out revenge.
